Baby Watch 2009:

 

Pere David Deer:     Male fawn born April 6, 2009. (First baby of the season)

Domestic Chickens: Hatched April 9, 2009.

Mouflon Sheep:        Male lamb born April 27, 2009. 

                                    Female born May 2, 2009.

                                    Lamb born May 15, 2009.

                                    Lamb born June 22, 2009.

Dall Sheep:                A white-morph male lamb born May 2, 2009

Canada goslings:     Began hatching May 16, 2009

Pygmy Goat:            Twin males born May 16, 2009. 

                                    Kid born May 20, 2009

Wapiti:                       Born May 18, 2009; Female born May 27, 2009; Male born June 7, 2009.

Richardson Ground Squirrels – the babies have emerged from their dens at the end of May.

Mallard Ducks:         Ducklings began hatching June 3, 2009.

Pronghorn:               Baby born at the end of May.

Mountain Goat:        Male kid born May 25, 2009.

Miniature Horse:      Female born June 14, 2009.

American Badgers: Twins born March 20, 2009.  Now on display.

Caribou:                     Baby born in 2009

Cougar:                      Babies born in early August 2009.

Peafowl:                    Peachicks started hatching in August.

Bison:                         Baby Bison born August 25, 2009.

                       

New Arrivals:

-Two Lions arrived at the Zoo in November 2008.  They are now on display.

-Two domestic Ferrets (currently off display) arrived in April.

-Royal Python donated on May 20, 2009 (currently off display).

-Three Cougar babies orphaned in Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park arrived in June.

                           They are now on display in the Kinsmen Children’s Zoo.

 

 

 

Wildlife Watch 2009:

 

Notably absent in 2009: There are neither Coots nor Ruddy Ducks this year…
